Impacts on agricultural production & productivity
Climate Change impacts on agricultural production and productivity has led to poor harvest, food insecurity, environmental related animal disease, wildfires, overgrazing etc.
These challenges have subjected rural people to harsh living conditions that has forced them into excessive and unsustainable exploitation of forest resources. The vulnerability of these communities in the district of Niamina needs national attention otherwise there will be high irreversible loss of biodiversity within a short period.
Charcoal burning by both men and women and the presence of chainsaws indiscriminately cutting down trees is prevalent in the area.
This is dominantly due to policy failure, government institutional failures from forestry, wildlife, agriculture and lack of research.
When the poor have no option, no alternative source of livelihood, the forest suffers thereby intensifying the existing crisis in the short and long term.
Climate Change is real. Act Now.
